Project & Sustainability
Health Assistant is a free, self-hosted platform. Learn about our philosophy, how it's built, and how you can help keep the project alive.
What is Health Assistant?
Think of it as a central hub for your health data. Instead of having your medical records, test results, and wearable data scattered across dozens of portals and apps, Health Assistant centralizes everything into one self-hosted, private dashboard.
- Family Profiles: Easily manage and explore data for multiple family members under one unified roof.
- Visual Timelapses & Comparisons: View longitudinal trends of your data over time. Compare different biomarkers side-by-side to spot critical correlations easily.
- Smart Analytics & Alert Cards: Get instant visual feedback and dashboard cards for test results that fall outside normal clinical limits.
- Agentic LLM Chatbot: A built-in AI assistant that can query your biomarker history, analyze trends, explain complex medical terminology, and chat interactively about your personal records. (Bring your own API keys—no data ever communicates with health-assistant.io)
By providing full integrations via a pluggable SDK, we eliminate data silos, letting you actually understand your health rather than just storing it.
How It's Built (The AI Reality)
We believe in transparency. Health Assistant is built heavily leveraging modern Large Language Models (LLMs) and autonomous AI coding agents. This allows a very small team to build complex, full-stack medical applications at an unprecedented pace.
However, AI does not run itself. It requires extensive prompt engineering, architectural planning, rigorous human code review, testing, and continuous orchestration. The speed of development is high, but the cognitive load and API costs are real.
Core App is Open Source (Apache 2.0)
Your health data is the most sensitive information you own. You should never be locked into a proprietary ecosystem or held hostage by subscription fees to access your own medical history.
That is why the core Health Assistant application is released under the permissive Apache 2.0 License . You can self-host it, modify it, fork it, and even use it commercially. There are no artificial restrictions. The code is yours.
(Note: This website itself is proprietary, but the actual Health Assistant software you run is fully open-source).
The Cost of Free Software
While the software is free, creating and maintaining it is not. The project incurs ongoing monthly costs for:
- AI API credits for development agents.
- Server hosting for the documentation, APIs, and demo instances.
- Domain names and infrastructure maintenance.
- Countless human hours of testing and community support.
The Creator
Health Assistant was created and is actively maintained by Ilias Chatzopoulos @constLiakos.
You can find more of his open-source work on GitHub or connect with him directly on LinkedIn.
Support the Development
This project relies on your support to survive. If Health Assistant brings value to your daily life, or if your organization uses it to manage medical data, please consider sponsoring. Your financial support directly funds the server costs and guarantees the project's long-term maintenance and future expansion.
